General Overview
Modified Program for 8, 9, 10, & 11 Year Old Children (aka Mod)

The Modified program (aka Mod) is for 8-11 year olds and provides a progressive development path leading up to full field 11-a-side play. Using smaller fields, smaller team sizes, and modified rules, the Mod program gives players more opportunities with the ball and involvement in the game, which enhances their skill development. The progression in players on the field is as follows:

  • U08 - Four players a side (three field players plus a goalkeeper),
  • U09 - Five players on a side (four field players plus a goalkeeper),
  • U10 - Six players on a side (five field players plus a goalkeeper),
  • U11 - Nine players on a side (eight field players plus a goalkeeper).

Boys and girls are typically placed on separate teams. However, girls are allowed to participate on a boys teams.

Players are assigned to teams using school affiliation, team preference, and special needs as guidelines. Unless otherwise requested, returning players are rostered with their previous season's team.

Coaches
All teams in the Tumwater Soccer Club are coached by volunteer coaches who are usually parents of one of the players. The Club provides training opportunities for all its coaches. If you would like to help coach your childs team, please indicate this on the registration form. You do not need to be a skilled soccer player or have intimate knowledge of the game to get started. Enthusiasm and the desire to provide guidance to our youth and future leaders is all that is necessary. (see Who Can Coach)

How do I determine what age group my child would play in?
The U06 (or U11, etc.) designation identifies which age group your child belongs to for team formation, league play, or clinic participation. The goal is to have kids of similar ages playing together.

Does my child fit into this program? Check our Age Chart.

Each August 1, a new season begins and every child advances one age group (e.g., U10 advances to U11).
